Refurbished Cafe at the Hospital
On 3rd August, Woking Lions Club president Jackie Taylor presented their splendid donation of £2,500 to our Chairman, Jon Allan, at the hospital cafe. This donation will help us to fund the furniture in the refurbished cafe, at a total cost approaching £10,000.
Regrettably, because of the Covid19 emergency, we have had to postpone our Quiz Evening at Horsell Village Hall, planned for 27 March. We will try to find another date when we can, but no one can tell at the moment when that is likely to be. Meanwhile, the entry fees have been refunded. It is a great shame that we cannot hold this enjoyable event, but compared with other issues at the moment we cannot mope too long over it.
50th Anniversary Celebrations and AGM
We celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2020. We had hoped to link our celebration to our AGM on 20th April.
We did indeed hold our AGM on 20th April. In these difficult times it was necessary to use Zoom, and to keep the numbers down to little more than a quorum. Nevertheless, all the Friends were provided with Agenda and Financial Statements sent out by post, and with Proxy forms, and an invitation to raise issues. Many members used the Proxy forms. Thank you from the Trustees to all the Friends for helping us hold this meeting in virtual form.
We were able to minute but not celebrate the 50years of The Friends of Woking community hospital and £1,000,000 raised for Woking Hospitals, principally the Woking Community Hospital, over the last 50 years. We have funded everything from beds to wetrooms, newspapers to the Bedser Hub, Christmas decorations to Carol Services held in the ward every year.
We are proud to continue to support the Woking Community Hospital service in any way we can to provide things for patients and staff that the NHS would not fund.
Like other charities, our fundraising has been severely affected with the Charity Quiz Evening and Plant Sale already cancelled. If you are able and want to support us, we have a page on Virgin Money Giving (there is a link to it on the “donation” page of this site), and of course we welcome new members to the Friends (you can download an application form from the “do join!” page on this site).
We will find an appropriate occasion for celebrating our 50 years when conditions improve.
Our annual Plant Sale, planned for the weekend of 13/14 June, alongside the Horsell Garden Safari, has been cancelled because of the coronavirus. We look forward to holding a sale in 2021.
The video below is a bit of promotion for our website host, WordPress – it is so nicely done that we have left it on here.
